Caring for your Skin

Few people really take good care of their skin. It needs more than just a quick shower and a scrub every day or so, although that’s certainly important. The skin is the largest organ on the body, and it’s our first line of defense against germs and bacteria. Caring for the skin correctly can result in looking younger, feeling better, and having a fresh glow about you that people are sure to notice. Here are a few tips for making your skin look amazing.

While you definitely want to wash off the grim, dirt, and dead skin that accumulate on your body, you don’t want to over-do it. People who take several showers a day may be damaging their skin. That’s because water, especially hot water, dries out the skin. If you’re not using a moisturizing body wash, your skin may actually be losing many of the different helpful bacteria that live on it.

Another issue is using a soap or body wash that’s too harsh for your skin. Using this type of soap can also damage the helpful bacteria. If you hand-wash your dishes, you may want to wear gloves while doing so. Exposing your hands to dish soap and hot water on a regular basis can leave the skin on the hands dried out.

Don’t scrub too hard—you may scrub off more than just the dead skin and dirt! You can damage the fresh, new layers of skin, too.

Pamper your skin every now and then. While a visit to a spa can be a true treat and should be done every now and then, you can also use lotions and different facial masks at home in between your spa treatments.

Remember to always wear sunscreen when you go outdoors for long periods of time. If you don’t have sunscreen on hand, wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and a hat. Too much exposure to the sun can greatly damage the skin and can even lead to skin cancer.
