Getting the Perfect Tan
2/28/2015

Do you want to get that perfect tan? Whether you’re going to a tanning salon or laying out in your backyard, there are a few tips you can follow that will help you make your skin that perfect golden brown. Of course, remember that you never want to burn your skin—that can lead to all sorts of problems, so always be careful when you’re tanning outdoors on your own.

First, be sure that you exfoliate on a regular basis if you tan a lot. This will help remove dead skin and make certain that you tan evenly.

Second, you’re going to want to shave any areas that you want to tan at least 24 hours before you tan. This way, the skin has recovered and you won’t do any damage to it.

Third, be sure you use gloves or an applicator of some sort when putting tanning lotion on. If you don’t, your palms are going to get covered with sunscreen and won’t tan quite right.

Fourth, after you tan, put on a coat of moisturizer before you go to bed the night before you’re going to tan. This will help keep your skin looking healthy and will take care of any areas that commonly tan in a rather patchy way. These areas—the hands, wrists, knees, elbows, feet, and ankles—often end up paler than the rest of your body. Moisturizing will help prevent this.

Fifth, remember that you need to tan on a regular basis. If you don’t, your tan will start to fade. However, you’ll want to wait about 48 hours between each tanning session so that the tan has the time it needs to full develop.

Finally, note that some people tan at different levels. If you’re really pale, you’re going to want to take it fairly slow so that you don’t burn your first time out.
