Keep that Relaxing Feeling Going
4/6/2015

Did you just come from a day spa? If so, you probably feel incredibly loose and relaxed. A good massage at a day spa by someone who knows what they’re doing is incredible. Now your muscles aren’t knotted up and you don’t feel stressed. But how long is that feeling going to last? Not very long once you get back to work and all the insanity that awaits you there! Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to keep feeling relaxed.

Yoga is great for keeping flexible, increasing your circulation, and keeping your mind and body in balance. By focusing on the movements and stretching of your muscles, you can slip into a relaxed state of mind that will help you detach from stress. You’ll probably need to take a yoga class or two before you’re comfortable enough to do a full yoga routine by yourself. Remember that some of these poses may look easy but actually aren’t, and you’re going to need some instruction in them.

If yoga seems too much for you, you can always do some basic stretches. This can help improve your flexibility, too, and help you keep your muscles unknotted and relaxed. Yoga is often focused on the flow of one pose to another, but with stretching, your goal is to feel the stretch as you hold the pose for a bit. It keeps your muscles loose after a massage.

Finally, work to discover what the source of your knotted up muscles is and eliminate it. Many people get their backs all knotted up by hunching over at their desk every day. If you do a lot of computer work, do your best to keep your posture good and to take a number of short stretch breaks during the day. This can help keep your muscles from getting too tense and bring some of that relaxed feeling you got from the massage back.
