Salons and the Digital Age
2/11/2015

Salons have changed over the years in order to keep up with new technologies. While it may not seem like it—after all, hairstylists still cut your hair with scissors or trimmers, not with some futuristic laser tool—there have been a few different changes in how salons operate.

The first major change is that it’s much easier to book an appointment because you can often go online and look at your stylist’s schedule. Many salons have online booking, so with just a few clicks, you can make an appointment and have that time blocked out on the schedule. There’s no need to call and keep your stylist on the phone for ten minutes and you try to find a time that works for both of you.

Salon websites also provide a breakdown of all the different services the salon and the stylists offer. Each stylist may have a detailed profile that provides their experience and what they specialize in. It makes it much easier to find a stylist that fits your needs.

Some stylists even give out their cell number and let their most trusted clients make appointments via text. They will also respond to questions and provide hair care advice if needed.

Speaking of texting, many salons now have a texting system in place that will text customers the day before their appointment to remind them about it. This way, there are fewer missed appointments, plus if someone does need to cancel, they have a day or so to let their stylist know. It makes the system much more efficient.

Of course, salons have kept up with updates in forms of payment. It’s quick and easy to pay by debit or credit card at virtually every salon. You can even add a tip on your card after your appointment.
