Should You Go With an Unnatural Hair Color?

Many people dye their hair blonde, brown, red, or black, but then there are some who like to go with really bizarre colors—blue, green, purple, or even rainbow colored hair! But even if you think this will look cool, should you do it? Your hairstylist may be willing to go along with it, but here are a few things you should keep in mind before you commit to an unnatural hair color.

Is there a rule about it at your job? Some places do ask that their employees keep their hair a normal color, especially those employees who interact with customers or are perceived as the face of the business. Make sure your employer is okay with it before you color your hair bright pink.

Do you have any major events coming up? If you’re in your best friend’s wedding, she may not really appreciate it if you show up on the day of the ceremony with green hair. If you have a presentation to give, it may not be the best time to see what your hair looks like with an orange streak down the middle.

Are you prepared to deal with a horrible color? It’s possible your hair won’t turn out the color you expect it to, even with the help of a professional. Every person’s hair color is slightly different, and sometimes there’s really no telling how your hair will look once the dye is applied.

Be ready to bleach your hair, too. There’s no way you can get certain colors without stripping all color from your hair. If you’re not ready to take this plunge, be aware that putting dye on top of your current hair color will result in a color that’s definitely not going to match the box! Fortunately, your stylist may be able to fix any bad coloring by bleaching it out or by putting another color over the top of it.
