Finding a great hair salon can be difficult. You want to find a place where the stylists give you that perfect haircut, but you don’t want to be paying a large amount of money for it. You also want a salon that has the right tools for the job, makes you feel relaxed, and is conveniently located. If you’re in search of a great salon, here are a few signs you’ll want to look for.

Location! Location can be everything. A hair salon located in a trendy, upscale neighborhood will give you a different style than one located in a more commercial area. However, these upscale salons may also be much busier. You may find it more difficult to book an appointment, and you may get less personalized care because of the demand. You might also end up paying more. However, you’ll certainly be able to get a fashionable style here, and that’s what many look for.

What do people leaving the salon look like? Do you like their hairstyles? Do they seem pleased with the service they received? This can be a great indicator if you’re going to like the salon or not. If you see everyone leaving with the same look, it’s likely that you’ll end up with that cut, too. Do the people leaving seem to be older women dressed for business? If so, this may not be the salon for a young, hip twenty-something. On the other hand, if many of the people coming out the door have tattoos, piercings, and brightly colored hair, it might not be the place to get a very conservative professional style.

Check out the stylists themselves. How does their hair look? Do they seem to take pride in their own hair? Is it healthy and vibrant looking, or does it hang limply? A good stylist will take care of their own hair as they would their customers’ hair.
