Tanning Tips

Do you enjoy tanning? If you do, you probably seek to get that perfect tan: not too red, not too pale, but a perfect golden brown. And you want it all over—you can’t have tan arms but then incredibly white legs, after all. Some people love going to the tanning salon to get that perfect tan, but others enjoy laying out in their own backyard or at the beach. Either way, here are a few tips that can help you with getting that perfect tan.

Exfoliate before you tan. This will help remove all of the dead skin on their body, allowing the new skin to soak up all the light. If you don’t exfoliate, the dead skin will not tan the same as the new skin. This will leave you looking blotchy and dry looking. You don’t need to do a lot to exfoliate—just run a loofa over your body in the shower to rub the dead skin cells off.

You want to go ahead and shave, too. Do this at least a day before you go out to tan. Remember that when you shave, you’re slightly irritating the skin. If you don’t give yourself 24 hours or so, you’ll be exposing irritated skin to the sun or the UV rays of a tanning bed. That can lead to a rash or bright red coloring of the area.

Set a tanning schedule. If you don’t, it’s possible you’ll end up either too pale at times or you’ll over-tan and end up looking burnt. It’s hard to tell when your tan is starting to fade since it’s gradual, and you see how your skin looks all the time. Setting a tanning schedule and sticking to it will help ensure that you keep your golden brown look for as long as you want it.

Finally, don’t forget to stay hydrated, especially if you’re tanning outdoors on a really hot day. Drinking water will also keep your skin healthy and can even help it keep the tan longer.
