Types of Skin 3/26/2015
People have many different types of skin, which is one of the reasons why going to a day spa is so important—you may not know what type of skin you have or what proper products to use on it, but a professional at a spa will. Many people schedule a spa day not just for the luxury of it but to learn more about their skin and the different ways they can treat it. Here are a few of the basic skin types and what they mean.
If you’ve got dry skin, you actually shouldn’t shower every day. That will only dry your skin out more. You need to use moisturizer and a hydrating treatment. You might also want to use an exfoliate. This will help remove dead skin cells. Look for something that uses glycolic acid. That helps to smooth out the roughness.
Sensitive skin can be easily irritated by just about, well, anything. This is why you need to look for anything that’s soothing to the skin. Things with aloe vera are good to use, too, especially if you have been out in the sun too long. Also look for creams that have anti-inflammatory properties. Also be sure to wear a light sunscreen any time you’re going to be outdoors so you don’t irritate your skin even further, and be careful what kinds of facial scrubs you use.
If your face is prone to acne, you’re probably going to want to exfoliate and use different facial washes. This will help keep debris and dead skin cells from clogging up your pores, which is what leads to pimps. Also try using a clay mask. This will help absorb excel oils on your skin, which in turn also helps keeps pores open.
Finally, some people have combination skin. This usually means that the forehead and nose are oily while the rest of your face is somewhat dry. The solution here is to do a facial mask only on the parts of your face that are oily and try using a moisturizer on the rest.
