What NOT to Eat for Good Skin
3/2/2015

Want your skin to look flawless? Good skin makes you look healthier, younger, and in generally makes your overall appearance much better, especially during the warmer months when you might wear shorts or sleeveless shirts. If your skin seems to not look at great as you’d like it to, a trip to a day spa can help, but that’s only one small measure. You may need to change up your diet to avoid some of these foods.

White bread – white bread is a high glycemic food (meaning it will quickly increase your blood sugar levels). It’s also possibly a cause of acne and, in general, has little nutritional value. Stick to whole wheat bread, which includes antioxidants and is overall much better for you.

Foods high in salt – adding salt to your meal is not a good move. This condiment can cause your body to swell up, especially in your face and ankles. If you look in the mirror and see that you appear to have a very puffy face, you may want to lay off the salt. Salt may also make acne worse. It’s not just adding salt to your foods that’s bad—many pre-packaged meals are very high in sodium. If you seem to be ingesting large amounts of salt even though you’re not salting your food, it’s probably because what you’re eating is high in sodium.

Candy – obviously candy is full of sugar, and sugar causes a number of issues with your body. As far as your skin goes, too much sugar can damage elastin and collagen, which means that your skin will start to look dried out, older, and will begin sagging earlier than it should. Watch out for candy, cookies, cake, and other desserts that have very little nutritional value.

Alcohol – while this isn’t a food, it’s still not good for you. Alcohol can lead to a number of different issues, including drying out the skin. Dry skin begins to flake off, wrinkle more easily, and simply looks unhealthy.
