Ask Your Hairstylist for Product Recommendations
1/29/2015

If your hair seems hard to manage or is too dry or oily, you may need to take a look at the products you’re using. Some products simply don’t work very well with certain kinds of hair, and using them either won’t do much of anything or will actually make your hair worse. So how can you find the best type of hair products for you? One good way is to ask your stylist.

A hairstylist sees people with all types of hair: straight, curly, frizzy, long, short, in great condition, it poor condition. They’ve had to work with it all, so they’ve come to understand which products work the best. The also often go through numerous brands. The salon they work for may have a brand of choice, but since a stylist may change salons several times throughout their career, they have usually had experience with a number of different brands. Most have a favorite and will gladly point you towards it.

While a stylist can give you some good product advice in passing, they can really point you to the best products once they’ve worked on your hair. Once they do, they’ll have a really good idea of what hair type you have. They’ll be able to narrow down the potential products for you, plus they may be able to recommend some special products. In some salons, the stylists can actually sell you the products the salon uses. Sometimes, that’s the way to go, although salons don’t always offer the cheapest prices.

Of course, you don’t always have to take your stylist’s recommendation, and you may even get conflicting recommendations from different stylists. In that case, you get a few sample sizes and try them out. Go with the one that makes your hair look and feel the best.
