Dealing with Thinning Hair
2/28/2015

Has your hairstylist mentioned that your hair seems to be thinning out? If you’re a woman, this can be especially concerning because it could mean you may start having bald spots. There are as many as 30 million women in the U.S. who have to deal with this, and it can be one a terrifying idea.

For many women, this thinning hair doesn’t just mean that they’re going to look a little different. It can have a major impact on their self-esteem and confidence. While women may find some bald men attractive, a balding woman is often mocked. Dealing with female pattern hair loss doesn’t, of course, mean that all of your hair is going to fall out overnight, but it may still deal a heavy blow to your confidence.

First of all, it’s okay to be upset about this. Some people may tell you that it’s only hair and that you’re much more than your looks, but a lot of women take pride in their hair. It’s completely okay to feel sad and angry. But don’t get caught up in these feelings. Once you’ve accepted this is happening, it’s time to do something about it. Be proactive!

Once you’ve decided your hair no longer looks acceptable, it’s perfectly fine to start looking at hairpieces. You might even want to get a full wig. There are a lot of reasons why wearing a wig may not only give you your self-confidence back but can also be a lot of fun. You can change your hair up whenever you want—just put on a different wig. There are no harsh hair dyes to deal with, and you can go from short hair to long in a minute.

Other women embrace their hair loss. They own it, and in doing so, become empowered. Either way, do what’s right for you. Whatever makes you happy is the best way to deal with thinning hair.
