Designing your Salon’s Look
3/25/2015

If you’ve ever walked into a salon and thought “Wow!” then you’ve seen a salon that has been designed perfectly. As a hairstylist, salon owner, or as a customer, you want to work and have your hair done in a place that’s comfortable, professional, and stylish. Here are a few tips for making your salon look amazing and, if you’re on the customer side of things, things that you want to look for in a great salon.

Most people come to a salon to relax, so your color scheme needs to reflex that. Many places have relaxing, muted colors on the walls. Some even do most of the walls, floors, etc. in black so that the spots of color really pop. This also makes the chairs really stand out since they’re usually under fairly bright lights. On the other hand, some salons that want to look ultra-modern will be done in all white. Some people compare them to the Apple store because everything is sleek, white, and modern looking. Salons that focus on coloring hair and doing hip, trendy styles may have more of a personal vibe to them with mismatched furniture, crazy colors, and more.

What type of look should you go with? Basically, you want to design your salon around the type of people you want to attract. If you want a younger crowd, you want to look trendy. If you want the executives, a modern looking salon may be the way to go. For the older crowd, pick something more muted.

Remember that salons need to have comfortable seating, so always look for something that people can sit in for an hour or more without getting too uncomfortable. You can usually find chairs that go with just about any theme that are also pretty padded and nice to sit in. Since the chairs are going to be one of the main parts of your salon, you might actually want to start with that first, then design the rest of your business around them.
