Getting Ready for your Hair Appointment
12/16/2014

Some people might laugh at the idea, but if you have never gone to a hair stylist before (or one who works in a real salon rather than one of those fast-cut places in the mall or department store), then you may not know what to do. Cuts from a stylist can be much different than you’d get elsewhere. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re going to a stylist for the first time
.

First and foremost, be on time! Stylists are like doctors in that they often have appointments booked all day and they still may try to squeeze in a few drop-ins. Their time is limited, which means you need to be on time for your appointment. Ideally, aim to arrive five to ten minutes before you’re schedule to be there. You may even be able to get started a few minutes early.

If you want a completely different style or a color instead of just a maintenance cut, bring a few pictures with you. It can be very difficult for your stylist to understand what you want with only a verbal explanation. A few pictures can make sure that you’re both on the same page.

Before you ask for a high-maintenance cut, talk to your stylist about what’s involved and tell him or her about your hair care routine. It’s important that you can describe what you usually do to your hair because some styles may require a lot more work.
Don’t dress up or dress down for the stylist. You’re looking for a hair style that will be perfect for how you usually look. If you go into the salon looking different than you usually do, you won’t be able to get a good idea of what your new style will look like on a regular basis.
