Going to the Stylist for the First Time
3/9/2015

If you’ve never gone to a hairstylist before, you may not know what exactly goes on. Sure, you may have gone to a stylist who works in a fast-cut place in the mall or department store, but that’s not the same as going to a salon. Cuts from a stylist can be much different than you’d get elsewhere. Here are a few things to know if you’re going to a stylist for the first time.

Do your best to be on time to your appointment. Stylists usually have appointments booked all day, and they often have people who drop in and want to have their hair done. Their time is limited, which means you need to be on time so they don’t end up behind schedule. Ideally, aim to arrive five to ten minutes before you’re schedule to be there. You may even be able to get started a few minutes early.

Know what you want, or at least have a good idea. It can be very difficult for your stylist to understand what you want with only a verbal explanation, so take along a few pictures if you can. This can make a world of difference.

Ask your stylist how to take care of your cut, and know if it’s feasible for you. Talk to your stylist about what’s involved and tell him or her about your hair care routine. It’s important that you can describe what you usually do to your hair because some styles may require a lot more work.

Wear your usual clothing. You’re looking for a hair style that will be perfect for how you look on a day to day basis. If you go into the salon looking different than you usually do, you won’t be able to get a good idea of what your new style will look like on a regular basis.
