Salons and Lighting
3/13/2015

If you walk into a salon that appears very dark, you may think it’s a great place to relax while you have your hair done. But if it’s too dark, your hairstylist may not be able to see what he or she is doing. It can also be difficult to tell the exact shade of hair color you have, and that’s very important if you’re having your hair dyed.

However, on the other hand, if you walk into a salon and it’s filled with bright, harsh light, it may be too bring for you. This type of light can be too harsh, and it can hurt your eyes. This is especially true if the light around the stations is directed straight at the stylist’s chair. You may have to spend an hour with bright lights right in your face, and that’s not going to be very relaxing at all.

There are a number of different types of light bulbs. Some give off a warmer light, while others are cooler. Being bathed in warmer light is going to make a person look better because it’s not as harsh and as bright. It tends to hide blemishes and wrinkles because it’s more of a yellowish light. Candles, for example, give off very warm light. Warm light, unfortunately, also tends to distort colors. If you see warm lights in a salon, you want them aimed at your face. When you look in the mirror under warm light, you’re going to look really good.

Cool lights should come from above. This way, the stylist will be able to see your hair without any type of distortion. These bulbs give off a white, crisp light that may not hide wrinkles or anything, but it does make the best light for seeing things as they are, and that’s what you want for your stylist.

A good salon will have a nice arrangement of both types of bulbs.
