Should you Copy a Celebrity Hairstyle?
1/17/2015

How many people had “the Rachel”—the hairstyle Jennifer Aniston made popular on the TV show Friends? Celebrity hairstyles have come and gone over the years. Rihanna, Zooey Deschanel, Emma Watson…all of these celebrities and more have had their hairstyles duplicated. But should you go with a celebrity cut? Your hairstylist may be more than willing to do it, but there are both some reasons for and against it.

If you want to copy a really popular celebrity’s style, your stylist has probably already done so a few times. This means they’re familiar with how the style should look and how to go about creating it. On the downside, it means there are other people out there with the exact same style. Naturally, it won’t look quite the same, but if you want to look more unique, you’re going to want a different style.

This leads into another reason against a celebrity hairstyle: your stylist won’t be able to perfectly reproduce the celebrity’s look because your hair, face structure, and head shape are going to be different. The style may not look that great on you. This is especially true if you want to have your hair colored the same. While most people don’t go quite that far, some do, and it doesn’t always turn out that great.

Remember that some celebrities don’t have the staying power that others do. While someone with Meg Ryan’s short cut may always get compliments, someone who gets a style similar to one of the latest TV reality stars may regret it fairly quickly if that star does something horrible or disappears from the celebrity scene overnight.

So while copying a celebrity hairstyle may seem like a good idea at first, be sure to think about it a bit before you commit.
