Should you Follow your Salon on Social Media?
3/18/2015

If you see that your salon has a social media page—Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.—should you follow it? Is there any benefit to doing so? Well, that often depends on your salon, but in many cases, yes, it’s a good idea to follow them.

Some places, salons and day spas included, set up a social media profile and then never do anything with it. They may have posted a few times once they had it up and running, but for the most part, they never did anything with it. It’s just sitting there. You probably won’t see them advertising their profile very much because they’re not using, but some do. In that case, it’s probably worthless to follow them. Unless someone new takes over their social media, you’re not going to get any benefit from it. In most cases, there’s no harm because you’re not going to see anything in your newsfeed from them at all.

Some salons do actively keep up with social media. They may post things like new products, new hairstylists, and when there are sudden cancelations. Sometimes, they will even list coupons and discounts you can take advantage of. It’s a good idea to follow these salons because they will post things that are beneficial to you.

However, if you find your salon’s social media account and see that they’ve posted something nearly every day, you might want to really look at what they’re posting before you follow them. Sometimes, salons hire social media professionals to handle their accounts, and when they will post some useful information and news, they may also be posting something every day just to post something. In this case, you may end up seeing what is more or less spam in your newsfeed. If you find yourself scrolling past too many posts from your salon, you can always unfollow them later.
