Three Ways of Relaxing
3/21/2015

Are you always feeling stressed out? There are a few things you can do to help you relax, and by doing so, you’ll reap a number of different benefits. Being stressed all the time can increase your blood pressure, make you more irritable, cause you to lose sleep, and more. By trying one or more of these different ways of relaxing, you can help improve your health—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

First, treat yourself. Allow yourself to take off work to go to a day spa. Here, you can take all of the pampering you need to really relax and drift off for a bit. You’ll be surprised just how great you feel when you leave, especially if you get a really good massage. You may not even realize just how much tension you’re carrying around until someone starts rubbing on your clenched muscles.

Second, try something new. You’d be surprised at how trying something new and different can take your mind off of what’s really stressing you out. Sure, you may feel apprehensive and a little nervous about trying something new, but it’s a different type of apprehension. There’s also the rush of it, the unexpectedness, and the surprise that comes with new things. Once that rush is over, you may realize you’re not as tense as you were.

The third way of relaxing is the hardest: give yourself permission to relax and not stress over work, family, or whatever has you stressed out. Tell yourself it’s okay to leave work at the office or to take an hour-long bath by yourself while your spouse handles the kids. Sometimes, you have to admit that you’re stressed, that things are crazy, and that you’re no good to anyone if you let yourself continue to stress out. If you can learn how to do this, you’ll be able to handle stress without any difficulty.
