Treat Yourself to a Salon
1/3/2015

Many people go to a quick haircut business to have their hair done. They’re in and out in less than 30 minutes. In some cases, especially in a barber shop, the stylist doesn’t even wash their hair first. While this may be a great option for those who need a fast cut, it’s not particularly great for someone who is looking for a specific look or who wants to feel pampered. That’s why many people go to a hair salon instead.

A hair salon is more than just a place to get your hair trimmed. In fact, some salons are almost like small spas in that they’re a place for people to go to relax for an hour or so. Here are a few ways in which a hair salon differs from a barber shop:

• The stylist typically washes and shampoos the client’s hair before cutting it.
• Stylists who work in a salon are more experienced with changing someone’s style. Barbers, especially those who usually trim only men’s hair, aren’t as familiar with how to change someone’s look.
• Stylists may also offer coloring, braiding, and help selecting an extension.
• Stylists are usually much more familiar with different products and can help their customers select the right products for their hair.

Of course, cost is also a factor here—a salon is going to be more expensive than a barber shop. Part of this is due to the atmosphere. Many salons are designed to provide a relaxing, friendly feel. The waiting area often features very comfortable seating, and each stylist area is usually decorated by the stylist so it reflects their personality.

If you need a trim or want a quick cut, there’s nothing wrong with a barber shop. But if you want to radically change your style, need a coloring, or want to be pampered just a bit, a salon is the better choice.
