Unexpected Benefits of a Foot Massage
12/16/2014

Many people go to a spa for a back massage, but some spas also offer foot massages. Those who spend all day on their feet or really put their feet through a lot will love this. Dancers, cashiers, construction workers, and others who stand a lot may find that their feet are swollen at the end of the day. A good foot massage will help with the pain, but there are some other benefits that you may not know about.

A foot massage helps improve circulation and is good for those who sit a lot. Those who sit in front of a computer all day aren’t exercising their feet very much, plus circulation can be cut off due to tight shoes. A short foot massage at night can help improve circulation in the lower part of the body.

Along those same lines, massaging the feet can help prevent injuries to the foot and ankle. That’s because a massage can reduce soreness and swelling plus help strengthen the foot. This is especially true if the massage is combined with different stretches and exercises.
A foot massage can also help with headaches. A study done in Denmark shows that foot massages, especially ones done by professionals trained in reflexology, could be used to decrease the pain from migraines and headaches. Some in the study were even able to stop taking medication completely.

A good foot rub can also help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Studies have shown that the relaxation people feel while having their feet massaged actually lasts long after the session, leaving the person feeling less depressed or stressed out for hours.

These are just a few things having a good foot massage can do for you. Of course, the massage itself is certainly nice enough without any of these extras!
