What’s a Blowout Bar?
12/19/2014

A blowout bar, sometimes called a blow dry bar, may sound like the strangest thing ever: it’s a salon without haircuts, coloring…all it offers is a blowout. Just go in, have a seat, select the style you want from the limited number available, and let the stylist use their blow dryer to make you look great. With just a blow dryer and a few tools like a good brush, a flat iron, and a curling iron, they can turn any bad hair day into a great day.

Here’s how most blowout bars work: you walk in (or make an appointment) and the stylist will ask what you’re looking for. Some places actually have a menu—a style book showing their most famous options. Some will let you customize them, but some specialize in a quick in and out, offering only the basic styles.

First, the stylist will wash your hair. This gives you a nice moment to relax, especially if you’ve had a stressful day. They will use whatever products you need—volumizer, straightening products, etc.—so that your hair looks amazing. Then it’s time to the drying. With a little styling product and the stylist’s magic, your hair will soon look incredible. The whole thing usually takes less than an hour.

The idea of the blowout bar is to create an experience that’s somewhat between what you could do at home and the styling of a full-scale salon. It gives you that incredible look that you may not be able to capture at home, but it’s also very affordable. Most blowout bars cost around $40 for an appointment, but the style you get can last for a week or more.

If you’ve never tried a blowout bar before, pamper yourself a little. You’ll find the experience makes you feel like a million bucks without paying nearly that much.
