When Should You Try a New Look

Some people find a hairstyle they love and stick with it for most of their lives. But others change hairstyles every six months or so. They may get a different cut, have it colored, or add extensions. But changing your hair, especially if it’s a drastic change, may not always go quite as planned. That’s why there are some times when experimenting with your hair is great, but there are some times when it’s not a great idea.

If you’re about to into a slow period at work and know you won’t have anything major going on, you can try out a new cut without worrying as much about how it looks. But if you’ve got an important presentation coming up or an event where you’ll be interacting with a lot of customers or important people, it’s probably a good idea to stick with something you know will look great.

The same is true for a major personal event. For your wedding, you’re going to want to look amazing, so you may not want to suddenly see what you look like with bangs or try to become a red head. The same goes for being a bridesmaid—you don’t want your friend to hate every one of her wedding pictures because of how you looked, do you? This rule really applies to any event where you’ll be front and center or where you’ll be photographed a lot.

Another good time to try a new look is around the first of spring. People with long, thick hair often go for a shorter, cooler cut around this time. You can work with your hairstylist to create a look that gets the hair up off the back of your neck so you’re not sweating as much. You could also treat yourself to a new look for your birthday, especially if you’ve always wanted to change up your hair color but haven’t wanted to spend the money.
