Why Men Should Go to the Barber
2/5/2015

Going to the barber used to be a tradition for men. Fathers would take their sons to the barber for their first “grown up” haircut, and men would often go to the same barber for most of their lives. But today, the barber shop is starting to disappear. More and more men are going to salons or unisex chain stores located in the mall. These places don’t always give men the best haircuts. The chain stores are usually low quality all the way around, while the stylists may simply be more familiar with women’s hair.

A barber is trained to cut men’s hair. They are used to using clippers, not scissors or other tools that are more often used to cut women’s hair. Hairstylists have much more training overall—they know how to do coloring, create two-toned hair, add layers, and much more. Because barbers focus only on men’s hair, they’re able to master their craft. They know how to use the tools best suited for men’s hair and how to get the perfect cut.

Going to a barber shop in the old days was as much about talking to the barber and the other men as it is about getting a good cut. Men often aren’t certain about how to chat with stylists, and they often end up sitting there in uncomfortable silence while the stylist talks to the people around her.

Barbers may do more than cut hair—some also provide shaves. This is done with the single blade razor, which few people use ay home any more. This shave is one of the closest shaves you’ll ever have. It involves hot towels, a face massage to clean out your pores, and more. It’s almost the same type of experience you’d expect to get at a day spa, but it’s available from your local barber for much less!
