Working with your Hairstylist to Find Your Best Look
3/16/2015

If you’re thinking about changing up your hairstyle, you have to be able to communicate what you want to your stylist. If you’re having trouble doing so, you may want to try a couple different strategies.

Look through magazines, especially magazines that have a lot of photos of people, and pull out a few pictures. You may find a few pictures of people with exactly the hairstyle you’re looking for, especially if there’s one specific hairstyle you want. If possible, try to find a photo of the same person from a couple of different angles so the stylist can get a really good idea of what you’re going for. Be sure to take these images to your appointment, too.

There are also several different websites dedicated to helping people select their new hairstyle. These sites have graphics of each style and usually several pictures of people with that style. Some even have detailed instructions on what it takes to achieve that look, although your stylist should know how to do that without much help. Others let you upload a picture and then change your hair so you can get an idea of what you’ll look like.

Take a look at people around you. You might see someone who has a face shape similar to yours with a style that looks really good. While this doesn’t help the stylist much, it can be a starting point for your magazine or internet search.

Many stylists have worked in the industry for years and have a good idea of what looks best on people with certain features, so they can tell you if what you’re thinking about will actually look good on you. Trust in your stylist and see what amazing hair you come out with! It might actually be nothing like what you were thinking about.
