The Effects of a Sauna
1/24/2015

Have you been to a sauna before? If not, you might not know what will happen when you enter one. There are some benefits to going to the sauna, though, so you should certainly check it out next time you go to a day spa. Here are just a few of them.

The sauna makes your body’s temperature rise, which in turn slightly increases your metabolic rate. Your blood pressure can also drop by as much as 15 percent, which is why saunas are great for those dealing with high blood pressure issues.

Saunas also help boost the rate at which blood circulates through the body. This helps nourish the skin and gets more blood to the extremities. It’s good for people who have poor circulation. It also increases the lymphatic circulation, which helps fight off diseases.

Of course, most people think of sweating when they think of saunas, and that certainly happens! The heat causes the sweat glands to work harder and opens up the pores. This helps sweat out waste and toxins from the body, giving it a good cleansing.

A sauna is also a great place to simply relax. The heat isn’t as oppressive as some would think, especially once you adjust to it. All you have to do is lie back and enjoy it. It helps to soothe the muscles and the nerves, relaxing your entire body. Many people actually doze off in the sauna and wake up feeling refreshed.

Saunas can also be a good way of relaxing mentally. In addition to taking a light nap, some people enjoy meditating in the sauna or simply letting their minds go blank. This gives them the chance to unwind and relax both mentally and physically. In the end, a trip to the sauna can be very rewarding, especially if you’re really stressed.
